Due to the specific characterization of its kind, this particular category of hotel provides all the services of traditional hotels (welcoming, assistance, common spaces, meals), although the rooms are scattered around the historical center, within a radius of approx. 200 meters from the centre and the heart of the hotel (the reception, the common spaces, the restaurant).

The rooms are set within buildings and apartments which, being part of the historical centre, and being appropriately restored according to the local culture, immediately provide the sensation of “being local”.

The Hotel Sas Benas is able to offer several residential units located in the center of Santulussurgiu within a distance of 200 meters from the Central House “Maicu”, where the reception, the restaurant and the common spaces are located. The Casa Maicu also comprises several rooms available in the traditional hotel accommodation standard.

The additional units scattered around the historical center are: The Scano’s House; The House of Music; the Onni’s House and the Laboratory for the preparation and cooking of traditional meat plates, sausages and cold cuts.

As we represented, it is the specific type of organization that distinguish and characterize this particular hotel “spread out” around the town centre.

Sas Benas has been the first of its category to be granted top quality certification by the Sardinian Regional Authority.

Nowadays it represent a new way to offer hospitality and accommodation that combines the sophistication of six, finely restored and fully furnished, ancient manor houses to the pleasure and comfort of every room.

The hotel on the whole comprises 18 double rooms with private facilities, for a total of 36 beds.

Not by chance the name “Sas Benas”, in Sardinian Language indicate the ancient reed instrument, which can be considered the precursor of the most known local instrument called “Launeddas”.

Reception – Casa Maicu

Originally built at the beginning of the 20th century, the building certainly is going to be a revelation to newcomers: indeed it shows itself as a unique labyrinth of various different spaces where the rooms disclose themselves perfectly set between the stone arches, rustic and sophisticated at the same time, akin to a treasure chest. The Sas Benas Restaurant’s philosophy centralize upon the inspiration of travelling among traditional and local plates, offering guests a sublime mix of genuine delicacies and a strong creative cuisine.

Sas Benas Cuisine is indeed exclusively based on local products, and its deliciousness has now managed to capture the public’s attention also being rated on the most popular and important Italian’s food and wine guides.

Includes home-made appetizers with sausages, salami and cold cuts from the “Laboratory”, a first plate of “traditional pasta” and, as second course, several meat plates with salad and vegetable on the side.

All the products and the meat strictly comes from the Montiferru area in the whereabouts.

The Scano’s House.

A few steps away from the 15th century old church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, right in the market square, stands the Scano’s House. A building completely renovated that immediately capture’s your attention for the merging of traditional and modern architectural elements. The past blend into the present.

The Music’s House.

It’s an old mansion owned by the Muscas family dated from the middle of the 19th century. The elegant building is located in Piazza San Pietro, where you can find the eponymous parish Church of the town.

The Onni’s House.
A manor originally built in the first decade of the 20th century, it overlooks the historic Carrela ‘e Nanti (now the Via Roma).

The residence was firstly opened in 1912 by the original owners. Recently the building has undergone throughout a careful restoration project in order to convert the original function to a more suitable and modern structure purposely adjusted for educational meanings, run directly by the hotel’s owner Maestro Antonio Diego Are.

The Laboratory.

Owing the progressive growth of the number of guests registered in the past, in March 2003 a new opportunity has been brought forth displaying the project to build up the Laboratory for pig meat processing, dairy products and other cured meats, targeting to enhance the production in the direction of stapling the making of food as a guarantee to its genuineness.

The initiative has contributed, and still does, to help avoiding exploitation and degradation of land resources and countryside, thereby creating an induced significant economic understanding.

Santu Lussurgiu is a small town 503 meters above sea level situated at the edge of the massive extinct volcanic mountain called Montiferru (Iron Mountain) in the province of Oristano. It is located in center-west Sardinia, and is one of the best-preserved historical villages on the island. Forests of Oak and Chestnut trees encircle the urban area and its mountainous location. The original village developed around the small rustic church of Holy Cross (built in 1185 AD) and has the characteristic structure of an amphitheater, with ancient stone houses built in concentric configuration along winding and steep narrow cobbled lanes that exist to this day.

Artisan and peasant traditions are conserved in the Museum of the Farming Technology, situated in an ancient family house of XVIII Century. The Museum has over two thousand instruments from workers, and objects of daily use which were donated by families in Santu Lussurgiu.

The particular geologic conformation of Montiferru and the surrounding area makes it a natural laboratory for agricultural and environmental studies as well as geology. There is a great abundance of water and natural resources . Forests of Oaks, Bay, Holly, Chestnut and Cherry trees alternate with fields cultivated with olive trees and grapes. In every season it is possible to see in the surrounding pastures, sheep, and herds of bue rosso , a special breed of red beef cattle typical to this area of Sardinia, as well as horses of Anglo-Arab-Sardinian lineage.

At a distance of 15 miles are found the salt marsh ponds of the Sinis with their population of herons and flamingos constituting an ecosystem of enormous environmental interest. Some of Italy's best beaches are within close distance (20 miles) of Santu Lussurgiu. The territory around Santu Lussurgiu accommodates many different forms of wildlife from the mountain wild boar, ermines, and several different kinds of hawks, Thrush, and a special Sardinian woodcock. As well as endangered species like the Grifone (a native vulture), the Peregrine Falcon, the Mouflon (a unique species of Ungulate), the Sardinian red deer, the Sardinian hare and Sardinian wild cats.

Santu Lussurgiu is also located within the heart of the richest archaeological zone of Sardinia. From the impressive Nuraghe Losa to the sacred well of Saint Cristina, the territory around Santu Lussurgiu is rich with small caves dug into the cliff's sides, going back to Neolithic period, called domus de janas, or the "houses of the fairies". There are also more imposing burial monuments of the nuraghic period (1800-1238 bc) called "tombs of the giants". Moreover, from Santu Lussurgiu it is easy to reach the complex of Barumini (a UNESCO World Heritage site); the ruins of Tharros (a Nuraghic port, a Phoenician port, a Carthagenian port, then finally a Roman port).
