Situated in north-eastern Sardinia near the island of La Maddalena, Arzachena is the tourist capital town of Gallura.

Its territory includes about 80 km of coastline and offers impressive views. A mixture of sandy beaches and jagged rocks with splendid deserted coves only accessible by boat. The seaside is no doubt the main attraction in this corner of paradise where the sea has clear waters and the colours are deep and intense. The wonderful sea-beds and the endless supply of fish make it a hot spot for divers.

At the end of the 50's, a group of international investors bought about 3000 hectares of this land and in 1962, the Costa Smeralda consortium was established. As a result, Arzachena is one of the most well-known and popular tourist destinations today, offering visitors plenty of attractions, services, comforts and resorts.
The sea's water is astonishingly transparent and clean with an array of astounding colours. You'll find both white, fine sand beaches and small bays accessible only from the sea.

Arzachena is not only sea, but also wonderful woodlands and Mediterranean underbrush with its typical aromas of myrtle and juniper. The "stazzo" is a typical building in this region. It's an old, rural dwelling and its roof is made of reeds, juniper's branches and trunks. Nowadays many of them have been restored and transformed into holiday farm residences.

The territory of Arzachena is scattered with ruins that testify the presence of mankind since ancient times. Those who wish to take a break from the strenuous beach-going may like to visit the south-western area called Capichera, where you'll find the monumental Tomba dei Giganti Coddu Vecchju near the Nuraghe "La Prisciona". Another attraction are the Li Muri Necropolis and the Tomba dei Giganti di Li Lolghi. Also to be mentioned is the Little Temple of Malchittu dating back to 1600 B.C. It is, in fact, one of the only four examples of a megaron-shaped nuraghic temple (an elongated rectangle) in Sardinia.

The nightlife in Arzachena and its surrounding area is very lively with a wide range of clubs, bars and restaurants you’ll be spoilt for choice.

About the Emerald Coast.

The "Costa Smeralda" is geographically the coast of north-eastern Sardinia known locally under the name, "Monti di Mola" (grinding stone).

In summer, the village is an extraordinary parade of yachts and celebrities. Every day there is a continuous succession of appointments with the international jet-set, sports events, parties or a game at the Pevero Golf Club.
