Travelling by train is a very fascinating experience. The Sardinian Railways offer a service called Trenino Verde (the Green Train), which gives you the opportunity to reach the eastern coast of Sardinia, the area of Ogliastra. You can start your travel from Cagliari or from the intermediate train stations: Monserrato (CA), Mandas (CA), Sadali.

The Company Ferrovie della Sardegna suggests you to take the Trenino Verde all year long. “The “Trenino verde” can be caught all year long and the same trip, taken in different seasons, will seem to be different ”. This train travels at low speed in order to give visitors the opportunity to admire the enchanting Sardinian landscapes: Mediterranean vegetation, small train stations, bridges, valleys and signalman’s houses. The Italian writer Elio Vittorini, who died in Milan in 1966, wrote: “It’s curious how this railway has been installed without ruining the ground and the surrounding landscape. It curls up and down, indulging the irregular mountain’s trend. It avoids obstacles without needing to pass through galleries. It does not avoid slumps as other railways do, looking for a more comfortable path”.

Whatever railway line you choose, you will live a fascinating and exiting experience. You can choose to travel all over the island by bus, or by plane, from Olbia to Cagliari.If you want to visit the small Sardinian isles such as Asinara – Porto Torres (SS), La Maddalena (OT) and Carloforte (CI), you can reach them by ferry with the following routes: Stintino-L’Asinara, Palau-La Maddalena, Portovesme-Carloforte, Calasetta-Carloforte
